Snabbtest Ethylene Glycol & Oxalate

If you clean the area in order to obtain a blood sample DO NOT SATURATE THE AREA WITH ALCOHOL a SIMPLE WIPE DOWN AND ALLOW THE AREA TO DRY OVER A FEW SECONDS WOULD BE THE PROPER METHOD OF PREPPING THE SITE.

We have found here in the USA a high number of animals taken to the ER clinic in which the animals showed positive on the EG pad but negative for EG poisoning   Why?

Here are a few things to look out for and to ask questions of the owner.

1.      Sporting events & Back yard picnics- in which owner at home drink alcoholic beverages and the animals got into them either by accident or the owner thinks it is cute to give a drink to the animal.

2.      Holiday days- drinks left on the floor or spilled on the table in which the animals lick up the alcohol

3.      Snack & food- cookies & cakes made with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda will give a false positive result.

4.      Car garages and Auto supplies- Many brakes fluid , window washer fluids, sprays for the deicing of door handles and synthetic oils all contain alcohol but not Ethylene Glycol that also can give false positives. These products are alcohol-based products.

5.      Never use Toxiban and then pull the sample

6.      First Always pull the blood sample before administering Toxiban as the charcoal has alcohol is coating the particles.

Remember if the EG pad turns green but after 8 hours you suspect that animal was exposed to EG and the Oxalate pad is negative this can be that the animals were exposed to an alcoholic product but did not contain ethylene glycol and therefore the results should be Negative for EG poisoning.
